What Are Hot Springs?

Hot springs are natures hot tubs. They are formed when groundwater permeates through cracks in the Earth’s crust and is thermally heated by hot rocks or magma.

The moisture then evaporates up to the surface, making steamy springs for bathing.

One of my favorite things to do here is head to the hot springs because they are relaxing and well a natural beauty. In such places there are world-renowned mineral waters like Hot Springs, North Carolina where the water tastes crystal clear and is actually carbonated.

People have visited these springs for centuries after believing that it held healing powers. From resort-style outdoor jetted tubs to an untamed hot spring situated in the wilderness, hot springs are as unique and diverse as they come.

Types of Hot Springs: Resorts vs Primitive

Having had the experience of many resort hot springs and very primitive ones as well. A great way to enjoy when you fancy a swim would be a resort spring as they are one of the most luxurious, comfortable types.onOptionsItemSelectedLuxury and. They offer modern, mineral water-filled outdoor jetted tubs. They are drained and cleaned after every bath.

Nice accommodation options are available at resorts too. Some of the options include staying in suites equipped with an in-room jetted tub or 1 of the available cabins/houses.

A natural primitive hot spring is a more proper experience. They are often in far flung areas with few things to do. Some of them are on the trail, though; you must hike to reach many of these! These natural pools provide fresh water from the ground.

No need to worry; it’s not as clean cut an operation as the amenities that accompany a resort. But they provide a secluded, quiet way to enjoy the natural springs. A few of the most remote areas have simple camping possibilities near, like tent sites or some low-quality cabins.

Things to keep in mind before you soak at a hot spring

Before visiting a hot spring, I of course do some basic checks. The spring type is the first one that I see. Some are just fancy hotels that use natural hot springs for their small pools like Glenwood Hot Springs. Others are places you cannot showerantrool in the open nature areas.

But ya also gotta consider the season. While winter dips seem magical, too-hot summer soaks might dry your skin even more. French Broad River This area has a lot to offer all year around.

And of course, I pack the gear. I Bring Water Shoes, A Towel (for Natural Hot Springs) When I go to a resort, I always have a swimsuit and flip-flops. I also go to the campground today for information on where I can park overnight.

Finally, I do some research on basic etiquette. Certain springs have a dress code or are only open certain hours. Reservations are required for some others. In this way, knowing what to do in advance allows me to relax and fully experience the waters.
